Albeit not widely recognized in a global market, Umekita Area, located adjacent from Osaka/Umeda Station of Osaka.

The area, Umekita (literary translates to north side of Umeda (Osaka) Station area) is divided into 2 phases development and phase I was developed and launched in April 2013 as GRAND FRONT OSAKA. The phase I project was developed by a consortium of Mitsubishi Estate, and 70,000SQM land is consisting from office towers, shopping mall, residential tower, and InterContinental Osaka.

The phase II development spans 162,000 SQM and it will one of the largest development projects in Japan. It retains a core development concept of urban greenery – a vast area of the development should be allocated as a public accessible green space.

Preliminary proposals were submitted to the City of Osaka in December 2013 and 10 proposals were selected in March 2014 for the further considerations.

Umekita redevelopment used to be a train depot of Japan Railway.
