Sumitomo Realty and Development, Japan’s major condominium developer, launched a new service, designed only for working businesswomen. The service, titled “Living Salon for Women” is simply put – a sales office for women, hosted by female sales representatives.

The reason behind this creation – according to the company, “Reason 1 – Many working women are hesitant to visit an open house / showroom of condominium by herself Reason2 – hard to say ‘no’ to male sales representative.”

In the past a few years, there is a surge in single-female buyer of 1 bedroom condominium.

In 2015 (Jan-Aug), 60% of Sumitomo’s 1 bedroom condominium buyers (with a price tag less than JPY 50 million) was 60%. The average from 2012-2015 is 51%.

As a starter, 7 salons, Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Tamachi, Akihabara, Kawasaki, and Yokohama is set to launch. The company is targeting to sell 50 units at the salons by March 2016 with a price range of JPY 40-50 million.
